Optimal Clearing Route

1~5 Voyages Optimal Route

This guide covers the most efficient path for your first five voyages in Sea of Oblivion.

Quick Tip: Always repair your ship to full durability before leaving port. A damaged ship moves slower and has reduced combat stats.

Voyage 1 - Coastal Familiarization:

  • Start from Ottopia and head northeast to the first small island cluster.
  • Gather wood and basic fish. Do not engage enemy fleets unless necessary.
  • Return to Ottopia to learn the cargo delivery system.

Voyage 2 - Iron Harbor Introduction:

  • Sail east to Iron Harbor. This unlocks crafting and ship upgrades.
  • Recruit Gunner Brock if you have enough gold (highly recommended for naval combat).
  • Complete the "Cannon Crafting" quest to get your first cannon upgrade.

Voyage 3 - First Real Combat:

  • Head southeast. You will encounter small pirate fleets. Practice dice combat mechanics.
  • Use reinforcement points on your main damage dealer.
  • Loot your first blue-quality equipment.

Voyage 4 - Exploration & Secrets:

  • Explore unmarked small islands. Many contain hidden chests.
  • Look for memory fragments to advance the main story.
  • Do NOT enter the Storm Zone yet unless your ship has 1500+ durability.

Voyage 5 - Preparation for Mid-Game:

  • Focus on gathering crafting materials for ship upgrades.
  • Upgrade your ship's hull and sails at Iron Harbor.
  • Stock up on healing items before attempting harder zones.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Pitfalls for New Players

Critical: Never return to port before delivering cargo if you have treasure on board. Returning clears all undelivered cargo and you lose the rewards.
  • Returning before delivering cargo: Always stop at delivery points first. The return-to-port button resets your voyage progress and wipes undelivered treasure.
  • Blindly entering the Storm Zone: Storm weather causes passive hull damage. Without proper upgrades, your ship may sink before reaching the next island.
  • Wasting skill points: Early skill points are limited. Focus on one combat path rather than spreading points across all trees.
  • Ignoring ship speed: A slow ship means more random encounter rolls. Speed helps you reach destinations faster and safer.
  • Selling all materials: Many crafting recipes require common materials later. Keep at least 50 of each basic material in storage.

Core Mechanics

Battle & Progression Mechanics

Dice Combat System:

Combat in Sea of Oblivion uses a dice-roll system. Each crew member contributes dice based on their stats. You roll, then assign dice to actions: attack, defend, or use skills.

Pro Tip: Save high-value dice (5-6) for skills rather than basic attacks. The damage scaling on skills is much higher.

Reinforcement Points:

  • Earned after each battle and at certain story milestones.
  • Can be spent to reroll dice, boost a crew member's stats for one turn, or activate powerful combo attacks.
  • Unused reinforcement points carry over between battles in the same voyage.

Oblivion Journey (Multi-Cycle):

  • After completing the main story once, you unlock the Oblivion Journey mode.
  • Certain upgrades and unlocks are permanently retained across cycles.
  • Buildings upgraded in Ottopia persist. Recruited crew do not (must re-recruit each cycle).
  • Each cycle increases difficulty but also unlocks new content, items, and hidden areas.

Cargo & Delivery System:

  • Found treasure must be delivered to specific ports to convert into permanent resources.
  • Undelivered cargo is lost when you return to Ottopia or your ship sinks.
  • Use the "Send Cargo" option at intermediate ports to secure partial rewards without ending your voyage.
